5 Friday Favorites: May 29, 2026
It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Hi, Friends. Heads up. It’s almost June. I don’t understand time. To be honest, I don’t understand a lot lately.
Anyway, we went to the Outer Banks this week for a quick trip with Steve’s side of the family. We thought the weather was going to be awful the whole time, but we actually got some sunny days. I have exactly three photos.
We missed having Kyle there, but we had a lot of fun family time at the beach and pool and around the table for food and games. It was a nice getaway after a sad couple of weeks of sudden loss for Steve and me and our friends. I think the ocean really does have healing powers. And family definitely does.
Here are some favorite things from the week.
Dansko Alanna Platform Sandals
We have a favorite shoe store in the Outer Banks that we always visit on rainy days. I got these Alanna platform sandals when we escaped a massive storm to shop and they turned out to be a great purchase. I was on my feet for practically 12 hours - give or take a few - on Wednesday and I wore these the whole day. My feet never hurt. They are so sturdy and comfortable. I got the brown, but I really love the vanilla color, too. These were worth every cent.
2. All the Poor and Powerless
I must have listened to this song twenty times this week while I was looking out at the ocean.
3. Tankeneo Sweater Short Set
I bought this set in army green and white last year and it is so great to wear after a day at the beach. It comes in so many colors, but I think this pink is on my list right now.
4. Another Two Piece Set
I do not have this set, so I can’t vouch for the quality but goodness, it’s cute. It’s called the Wiholl Two Piece Set for Women Summer Spring Outfits Cruise Travel Beach Vacation Mock Neck Wide Leg Pants Set. It comes in a lot of other patterns, but I cannot list them all since the Amazon title alone just made my carpal tunnel syndrome flare up.
5. Death is Nothing at All
I recognize that this here newsletter has been a bit of a downer of late. Some weeks and even some months and full years are better than others. And May of 2026 has really gone off the rails. Steve and I attended two funerals this week. Both were for great men who loved their people well. This was read at one of the services by a grieving daughter. It brought me a lot of peace.
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well.
-Henry Scott Holland
Today I hope you are able to speak the name of the person you miss most in the world without effect. Without a trace of shadow on it knowing that this person waits for you just around the corner.
Have a blessed weekend.
