5 Friday Favorites: March 6, 2026
It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Happy Friday! I’m back from Texas which was a glorious 75-80 degrees and sunny for four straight days in a row. I told my dad I only wanted to spend as many minutes as possible outside, so we proceeded to eat outside at the same restaurant three days in a row. Rockwall peeps: If you have not been to Chandler’s Landing to 501 Yacht Club in awhile, I give it five stars for service, food, drinks, and sunsets. It’s a public restaurant now, so DO NOT MISS IT.
I flew back on Monday straight into 38 degrees and snow flurries. On Tuesday we had about 20 minutes of sun in the morning and since then it’s been gray and drizzling. What I’m saying is that Virginia and I are currently in a fight.
If your mental healthy is equally as dependent on the weather as mine is you might appreciate what I came across on Instagram. This is exactly the transformation my brain had this weekend:
We travel to Danville, Virginia this weekend for baseball and my weather app tells me it will be 77 degrees.
Here are some other favorite things from the week.
Niven Morgan Gold Hand Soap & Lotion Set
My sister came to Texas as well and spent the first night visiting and staying overnight with her husband’s family, so I picked her up on Friday morning. This hand soap and lotion set was in the guest bathroom and it smells like you’ve just landed in a luxury hotel. It’s pretty expensive, but like I said, LUXURY HOTEL. (PS I just had to look up how to spell luxury, so you can probably tell I’ll be in the very fancy Courtyard Marriott this weekend.) You can also buy the soap and lotion separately.
2. Kerasilk Flyaway Wand
I was interviewed for a podcast last week which also has a video component. I am nothing if not vain to the extreme which had me showing up that morning before the recording to get a blow out. It’s embarrassing, but I am who I am. My hair stylist used this product to tame all the crazy flyaways I had. I had never seen such magic. Highly recommend, especially for those of us whose hair is breaking off in the most unfortunate ways.
3. Compressed Facial Sponges
My sister introduced me to these handy little facial cleansing sponges. They come compressed into very thin circles and then expand when wet. They’re great for travel since they don’t take up much space and are less than $10 for a pack of 50. I don’t claim to be an avid environmentalist, but apparently they’re biodegradable, so that’s a plus as well.
4. Somewhere in the Sunshine by Charles Esten
My dear friend, Holly, read my newsletter last week which included a photo of my dad, me and the gorgeous Texas sunset. I wrote about how our family is finally walking out of the darkness three years after my mom passed away. The Lord’s timing is not ours, of course, but He will never leave us in our heartache. Holly texted me this song by her cousin, the very talented Charles Esten, and I could not love it more. The sunshine is so healing to me. Perhaps this beautiful song provides the reason.
5. The Silent Love of Family
There is no vocabulary
For love within a family, love that's lived in
But not looked at, love within the light of which
All else is seen, the love within which
All other love finds speech
This love is silent
-TS Eliot
I came across this poem from TS Eliot years ago when my children were still in the house quite literally under my feet all the time. I thought it described my family of origin perfectly even after my brother, sister and I had all left home. I’m incredibly grateful to have been given the gift of love like this in my family. When we aren’t physically together, love is silent, but there is no doubt that we can still live in that love every day of our lives.
There are no children in this house now. The only thing under my feet is a foot rest designed to keep my old, aching back in alignment as I sit at my desk writing the final chapters of my book. Hours full of solitude and a blinking cursor on a screen stretch out in front of me urging me to finish one more chapter.
I search my brain for memories of raising those children, the lessons they taught me far outweighing any I taught them. And every day I pray that when my boys search for memories of their moments in this family, beyond any life lesson, any moral guidance, or any practical wisdom, they will remember love - a love within the light of which all else is seen.
In closing, here’s another Texas sunset.
You’re welcome. Y’all have a great weekend.
