5 Friday Favorites: February 27, 2026
It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Happy Friday.
Well, friends, for Lent I have given up purchasing any new clothes or new skin care or beauty products. That is unless I run out of moisturizer because I think Jesus wouldn’t want me to give up hydration at this stage in my life. To be clear, I don’t always purchase the things I share here, so it doesn’t mean that Friday Favorites will be all that different. It’s just to say that until Easter any finds that I didn’t purchase before Lent started will be strictly on a “look and don’t touch” basis for me. Here are some favorites from the week.
Homeschooled: A Memoir by Stefan Merrill Block
I read this book while we were in Miami. I really love reading memoirs and this was a good one. It also takes place one town over from where I grew up.
2. The Rip
In full disclosure, in the middle of this movie, Steve looked at me and said, “If Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Kyle Chandler weren’t in this movie there is no way you’d be watching.” Friends, he speaks the truth. Still, I did think the story was interesting and it kept me guessing the entire time. The guns and the car chases and whatnot? I can do without them, but you put Good Will Hunting and Coach Eric Taylor on my screen and I’m all the way in.
3. Button Down Short Sleeve Sweater
This striped button down short sleeve sweater was my last purchase before my Lenten fast. There are so many cute different striped combinations.
4. Heated Stadium Seat
On Sunday Drew’s team played in sideways rain, temperatures in the 40s and wind that was blowing like crazy. And they lost. It was just as lovely an experience as you can imagine. One bright spot was that my sweet fellow baseball momma friend, Stephanie, lent me a heated stadium seat which made her the MVP of the day. I jumped on Amazon right away and I’m not sure if this is the same one. It’s pricey, but might be worth it if the weather in this so-called “spring” sport continues to be downright rude and untrustworthy.
5. A Trip to Texas and Dad
I’m in Texas for the weekend and last night we had dinner outside because Texas was showing off and it was a stunningly beautiful and warm evening. Next month will be three years since we lost my mom. It seems like so much longer and also like it happened just a week ago. I’m not exaggerating when I say that our family has struggled mightily. There were some brutal days, weeks and even months. But the Lord has been good to us. We miss my mom more than we could have ever imagined, but we are doing okay now . . . so much better than we could have ever imagined. I guess that’s why the Bible tells us that nothing is impossible with God. Everything seemed impossible on March 20, 2023, but we’re here. We’ve held together. And we’re okay only because of His relentless grace and mercy.
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.
Isaiah 42:16
Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend. And PS: Texas sunsets are the best sunsets of all the sunsets.
