5 Friday Favorites: September 26, 2025

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Good morning. The Texas Longhorns have a bye this week which for those of you who are not fluent in the language of CollegeFootball means that they don’t have a game. So if you see me on Saturday, I’ll basically be like this . . .
. . . as opposed to last weekend when I had numerous chats with Jesus about Young Arch Manning and all the pressure he has been under. I then watched him throw for 309 yards and three touchdowns, as well as score two rushing touchdowns. Which meant that most of the game I was like this:
“That game was against Sam Houston State,” you say?
Shall we get to some Friday Favorites? Let’s.
1. Kedera Overalls
I had a pair of overalls from Target that I wore out so much so that the buckles broke. Those overalls saw me through weeks of games during both the 2022 and the 2023 Virginia High School Baseball Playoffs. I wore them as well as the same shirt and shoes to every single game for weeks. I also sat in the same spot in the bleachers. I daresay those overalls played a significant role in the fact that my son’s team won the 2022 State Championship.
Don’t question the magic of my overalls during the spring baseball season in the year of our Lord 2022. Ask anyone. They were CRUCIAL.
Anyhoo, they’ve done their time so I bought these overalls in green to replace them. The jury is out on if they are as magic as their predecessors, but they sure are cute. There are four other colors available.
2. Carne Asada
Steve made Carne Asada Sunday night using this recipe and it was so good. Five stars and two thumbs up.
3. Firm Foundation (He Won’t) - Cody Carnes
I’m a huge fan of this song. I would go so far as to say, “It’s a banger. “
PS If any of my boys are reading this rest assured that my attempt to be cool and use the word “banger” will result in my phone blowing up with all manner of objections like this:
4. Lace Top
I am 95% sure that this blouse falls in the crop-top category. The chance that if I wore this my stomach might show in public is a chance I’m not willing to take at this particular point in my life’s journey. Maybe you don’t care about your stomach showing accidently or maybe it won’t be too short for you. Who am I to say? That’s between you and the Lord. All I know is that it’s so pretty and I think it would be great with jeans or dressed up with a skirt or pants for a holiday party.
5. When Waiting on the Lord Becomes an Excuse for Sin
Psalm 37:7 - “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”
Exodus 14:14 - “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Proverbs 14:15b - “The prudent give thought to their steps.”
These are three very important verses with very important commands. Abiding by these words is both faithful and wise. For me, they speak to the idea of discernment. If you aren’t around the church often you might not be as inundated with this term as I am.
Merriam-Webster defines discernment as the ability to comprehend what is obscure. In Christian circles that equates to understanding the difference in truths and falsehoods and good and evil. In addition, and especially for me in the past several years, discernment means trying to figure out what God’s will is for our lives. Before making a decision, we want to be sure we are hearing God’s call clearly and then stepping out to do the work He has set out for us.
Some of the fruits of following those commands are patience, wisdom and confidence. These are all wonderful virtues and since James 1:17 tells us that “every good and perfect gift comes from above”, it follows that these are the things God wants for us when we heed the advice of those verses.
Unfortunately, during much of my life I have used the ideas of waiting on the Lord and discerning His will as stall tactics. I have told myself I was being discerning, patient and prudent when in reality I was procrastinating, overthinking and doubting.
BIG. YIKES.
Be assured that I absolutely believe in the words of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 which tell us that “all Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be equipped for every good work.” The problem comes when I misuse the Scriptures. And I have done that. In the past several years, I have cherry-picked verses to justify my own sin.
I have been lazy and called it caution. I have shuffled my feet and called it patience. I’ve been insecure and called it humility. I have fit those verses into a narrative of obedience, when in effect I was using them to rationalize my unwillingness to trust God to equip me for the tasks He put in front of me.
Waiting on the Lord, being patient and seeking His guidance is wise. But let us not deny the truth that at some point God is asking us to move. Even when all the details aren’t specifically worked out, even when the final result isn’t crystal clear, even when we still have doubts. The call might be in making a decision to change careers or to admit to a trusted friend that you are suffering an addiction . Or it might simply be to invite that friend you’ve lost touch with to meet for coffee or to attend that exercise class you’ve been eyeing. Are you waiting or are you stalling?
Take the bold step. Trust Him in the mystery. Perhaps the wait is over.
Have a good weekend, Friends.
