5 Friday Favorites: October 23, 2026

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello. Well, the college football landscape is a whole mess. Nobody knows who is going to win from one week to the next. If you’re a person who bets on the games, I’m not here to judge, but I think I would call that a fool’s errand this season.

So I don’t know who will win this weekend, but I do know the mighty former #1 Texas Longhorns are in a downward spiral, so how about we turn to baseball, shall we????

Baseball is the hero of this week.

First of all, we got to go see Drew play in his intersquad fall scrimmage. And this, in a tragic development, turns out to be his last intersquad fall scrimmage because he’s a senior in college. Over 20 years watching my kids play and we’re nearing the end. I snapped some photos and it appears that my littlest boy is a grown man now which I find pretty offensive.

Baseball delivered even more joy this week on Monday night. Remember when I wrote about the son of our dear friends and one of Kyle’s childhood buddies who was drafted into the actual major leagues? Remember how all the families and all the boys and all the moms and dads who had watched him play since he was 7 years old were super chill about his debut last year?

Well, if we had any chill left, it’s gone because now that kid is going to the World Series with the Tampa Bay Rays. WHAT IN THE WORLD? This is basically what happened to our friends and family text chains as soon as the Rays won the ALCS:

I stood so close to the TV to try to find Ben during the celebration that you would have thought I was about to crawl inside of the screen. And most of the time the reporter was standing right in front of him, so I had some words for her.

Anyway, congrats to our favorite MLB player in all the world. We’re so proud. Go Rays!

Here are some other favorite things from the week.

  1. Maison Martin Margiela Replica By the Fireplace Perfume

My friend, Jen, sat next to me in the chapel at our Wednesday church service this week and I was so enthralled by how great she smelled that I think it got a little creepy for her. She said she was wearing this perfume which is honestly one of the best fall/winter scents I have ever smelled. Just know that if you wear it, things might get weird with the people you sit next to.

2. Loose Denim Bib Overalls

If you’ve been reading here long enough, you know I love an overall/romper/jumpsuit situation and you likely think there is no way I could possibly need to add another overall/romper/jumpsuit situation to my closet. But in a tragic turn of events, it seems that during our move this summer, an entire box of clothes from my closet went missing. Said box seems to have included all of my overall/romper/jumpsuit situations. So, I ordered this denim one yesterday and hope it will be able to fill the void in my closet and in my heart.

3.Saban

This documentary about Nick Saban might be the only thing able to save this college football season for me. This man has so much wisdom to offer about life. I think he seems so charming and kind and at the same time, he scares the fire out of me. There is, of course, a lot of football in this series, but there is so much more to gain even if you’re not a fan of the sport. And if you think Coach Saban’s got something to teach, just wait until you hear from his wife, Miss Terry. There has been a lot of well-deserved positive social media response to her in the wake of the documentary. I thought this instagram post nailed it.

4.Travel Jewelry Pouch

I’ve had several different travel jewelry cases and this one is my favorite. It is soft and easy to pack, has six divided pouches and it zips closed. It comes in several colors and I think it would make a great gift for a Favorite Things party or a stocking stuffer.

5.A Prayer to Help Us Step Out of the Boat

I spoke at my church’s Wednesday Mid-Day service this week on Matthew 4:18-23 which tells the story of Jesus finding four fisherman - Peter, Andrew, James and John - and literally calling them right out of their boats in the middle of their workday to follow Him.

I personally have a hard time “stepping out of the boat” and following Jesus’s lead. I really like sticking to my familiar places, my routines, the friends who I know love me unconditionally and the tasks that I find easy. But a true faith in Jesus requires that we are bold and brave enough to step out of our comfort zones so that we can experience the abundant life He came to provide. We’re simply missing out on more than we can ask or imagine if we stay stuck in our boats.

I loved how this prayer that was included in the service’s program this week gives language to the fear that sometimes prevents us from stepping out.

Gracious God, You call us from the ordinary places of our lives. You meet us in our work, our routines, our relationships, and our responsibilities and you say, again, “Come, follow me.” So we bring our lives before you now.

For the places where we are uncertain about what comes next, give us courage to trust you. For the places where we are holding tightly to what is familiar, give us faith to loosen our grip. For the places where we are tired, distracted, or afraid, help us hear your voice above all others.

Here’s to find opportunities and courage to step out of the boat this weekend. Have a good one, Friends.
